How to Measure

A small guide from Yi at Yi's cosplay

Every fursuit I make at Yi's cosplay is handcrafted for the person who will wear it. Because of this, accurate measurements are very important. They help me make sure your suit feels comfortable, fits naturally, and moves well when you wear it.

Please take your time when measuring. If possible, ask a friend to help you — it makes everything much easier and more accurate.

What you will need

  • A soft measuring tape
  • A mirror or a friend to help
  • A phone or notebook to record your numbers

When measuring, keep the tape gently snug but not tight, and try to stand in a relaxed position.

Head Measurements

Head Circumference

Wrap the measuring tape around the widest part of your head.
The tape should pass just above your eyebrows, around your ears, and across the back of your head.

Head Height

Measure from the top of your head down to the bottom of your chin.

This tells me how much internal space the fursuit head needs.

This measurement helps me build a head base that fits comfortably.

Face Width

Measure from one cheekbone to the other across the front of your face.

This helps ensure the inside of the head sits naturally around your face.

Neck Circumference

Measure around the base of your neck, where a T-shirt collar would normally sit.

This helps me design the neck opening so the head is secure but still easy to put on and remove.

Upper Body Measurements

Shoulder Width

Measure from one shoulder edge to the other across your back.

Arm Length

Measure from the top of your shoulder down to your wrist with your arm relaxed.

Upper Arm (Bicep)

Measure around the widest part of your upper arm.

Forearm

Measure around the widest part of your forearm.

Wrist

Measure around your wrist joint.

Feet

Please also include your shoe size (US size or centimeters).
If the suit includes feet paws, this helps me scale them properly.

A Few Tips from Me

  • Measure two or three times to double-check your numbers
  • Wear light clothing while measuring
  • Keep the tape level and straight
  • Try not to guess or round numbers

The more accurate your measurements are, the better I can make your suit fit.
